Spanish La Liga Week 3Athletic Club Bilbao v Real Zaragoza
Real Zaragoza will want to put away their indifferent start to the La Liga season as they take on Athletic Club Bilbao in their third match. In their last game Zaragoza were held to a 1-1 draw at the La Romareda by Racing Santander. This result followed a shock 3-0 loss to newcomers Real Murcia on the opening day.
Coach Victor Fernandez who guided the team to a sixth place finish last season will want to get the first win for Zaragoza this time around. The team will be boosted by the arrival of French midfielder Peter Luccin from Atletico Madrid. The 28-year-old was due to move to Birmingham in the Premiership, but decided to go to Zaragoza as it gives him a chance to show off his talent in the UEFA Cup.
"We will play in the UEFA Cup and we will aim to finish as high as possible in the league and why not even consider a shot at the title?" Luccin told French newspaper L'Equipe. Coach Fernandez will certainly be hoping his star's words come true.
On the other hand, Athletic Bilbao have had a nightmarish start to their La Liga campaign. They drew 0-0 in their first game against Osasuna and lost 3-1 away to Barcelona. Two goals from Ronaldinho and a controversial one from Yaya Toure seal the win for Barcelona. Susaeta did grab a late consolation, but the match was already decided by then.
Bilbao were also linked with Barcelona striker Santi Ezquerro, but the deal fell through for some reason. Ezquerro who was at the club between 1998 and 2005 wanted to return to San Mames and a deal had been agreed, but was stalled at the last minute.
Nevertheless Bilbao will want to register their first win as well Zaragoza. It should be an interesting and keenly fought battle when the sides clash this Sunday.

Espanyol v Getafe
Espanyol will look to register their first win of the new La Liga campaign as they take on Getafe at home this Sunday. Espanyol have had a disappointing start to their season after losing 1-0 to Valladolid on the opening day and being held to a 2-2 draw at Betis in their second game.
On top of worrying about their form, Espanyol Coach Ernesto Valverde will have injury worries on his mind as well. Tamudo is out for three weeks with a thigh injury, while Garcia and Rufete are also sidelined with undisclosed injuries.
Luis Garcia is in sparkling form as he had netted in both goals in the Betis games. Pablo Zabletta also looks in good touch, but the defense if a bit of a worry for Espanyol at the moment. Espanyol finished in a disappointing 12th position last season and fans will be hoping for a better showing this season. However the would have been disappointed with the start and will hope for better showing in the Getafe game.
Getafe also have not had the best of beginnings to their La Liga campaign. Trashed 4-1 by Sevilla in their first game, they salvaged a draw in the second match thanks to Manu del Moral's last gasp equalizer against Recreativo Huelva.
Hernandez was the supplier for that vital goal and Getafe will be hoping to continue in the same vein for the rest of the season. Sousa and Cortes will be back after serving their one game suspension, while Pallardo is battling an undisclosed injury and is not certain to play against Espanyol.
Getafe had trashed Espanyol 5-1 in the same fixture last year and will hope to repeat the same this season as well.

Racing Santander v Levante
Racing Santander will aim to keep their season going as they face-off against Levante in their third match of the live La Liga season. Racing have had a great start to their campaign following creditable draws at Barcelona and Real Zaragoza. Although the team has not registered a win as yet, fans will be relieved that they have not lost a game either.
Pedro Munitis, Aldo Duscher, Oscar Serrano and Pablo Pinillo were in fine form against Zaragoza and will hope to continue the same display against Levante as they search for their first win in this season. Serrano scored the goal that almost gave them their first win against Zaragoza, but Oliveria equalized late on, meaning that Racing had to be satisfied with one point.
Smolarek should be back for Racing having served out a one match suspension, but injuries to Valle Trueba, Navas and Moraton are worrying factors.
Meanwhile Levante have also had a forgettable start to their La Liga season. Levante had a nightmarish start to their La Liga campaign as they went down 0-3 at Mallorca. That was followed by a disappointing 0-0 draw to newcomers Murcia.
Levante are struggling with injuries to Courtois and Arveladze. The former is being evaluated on a daily basis, while the latter has torn his meniscus and is expected to be off for almost a month. However the team will be buoyed by the signing of striker Christian Rigano from Messina.
Levante will want to register their first win as will Racing Santander when the two sides clash on Sunday.

Defending champions Real Madrid meet Almeria in their next La Liga clash on Sunday as they look to sustain their perfect start to the new season. Madrid have chalked up two successive victories against city rivals Atletico Madrid and Villarreal and are favorites to make it three in a row against a newly promoted Almeria team. A come from behind victory against Atletico was followed by a 5-0 thrashing of Villarreal which sees Madrid sit comfortably at the top of the table.
Coach Bernd Schuster was delighted with the form shown by new signing Wesley Sneijder, stating that the Dutchman's game reminded him of his younger days. Sneijder has had a fantastic start to his Real Madrid career, leading the scoring charts with three goals from two games.
Meanwhile Almeria have had a good start to life in the La Liga with a 3-0 thrashing of Deportivo LaCoruna on the opening day of the season and followed it up with an impressive performance in the 2-1 loss to Valencia. Coach Bernd Schuster will be looking towards Álvaro Negredo Sánchez to provide the goals upfront as his team faces its first tough test of the season.
Almeria is a relatively unknown opponent for most of the La Liga teams after having gained promotion to the top flight of the Spanish league since its formation in 2001. With Depor and Valencia both finding them tough to break down, Schuster will be hoping that his team has enough quality to come away with a comfortable victory.

Valencia v Valladolid
Valencia face another tough tie against a newly promoted team when they play Valladolid in their next La Liga fixture on Sunday.
Having just squeaked past Almeria in their last match, Valencia coach Quique Sánchez Flores will be hoping for a more comfortable outing against Valladolid this time round. Valencia had taken the lead through Fernando Morientes a minute into the second half.
However they were soon pegged back by an impressive Álvaro Negredo Sánchez and needed a goal from Emiliano Moretti nine minutes before full time to register their first win in the new season. Meanwhile Valladolid will be looking to build up on an impressive start to the season which has seen them collect 4 points of a possible 6 and sit near the top of the table. Though pretty early in the season, Valladolid will be hoping to sustain their good form for as long as possible to be comfortably high up the table come the final third of the season.

Deportivo LaCoruna v Real Betis
Deportivo LaCoruna will be looking to kick start their season when they face a tough tie against Real Betis in their next La Liga fixture on Sunday. A disappointing start to the season has seen Depor collect just one point from two matches. An opening day thrashing by newly promoted Almeria added to the poor performance by Miguel Ángel Lotina's men and things did not improve in the next match against Valladolid.
Deportivo went behind twice in the game with José García Calvo and Sisinio González Martínez scoring for the hosts. However Depor managed to find the equalizer each time through Sebastian Taborda and Ivan Riki to register their first point of the new season. However they will be disappointed by the performance against a team they had fancied to beat before the start of the match.
Meanwhile Real Betis have had an indifferent start to the season, drawing both their matches against Recreativo Huelva and Espanyol. Betis, who finished just one point away from the drop zone, will be looking to improve on their last season's performance and hope to end the season in a comfortable fashion.
Betis had won the fixture by a margin of 1-0 last season and coach Hector Cuper will be looking to repeat the performance. Cuper will fancy his chances against a team that is still trying to find a perfect combination on the field. Watch Deportivo LaCoruna v Real Betis live on free-football.tv.

Having played just one match in the league this season, Sevilla will be eagerly anticipating the match against Huelva as they looking to continue their good form in the league.
Sevilla had thrashed Getafe 4-1 in the only league match, with goals from Jesus Navas Luis Fabiano, Frederic Kanoute and Alexander Kerzhakov. However Juande Ramos could be without the services of Fabiano as the striker has suffered a new injury to his right foot on Tuesday.
Meanwhile Huelva will be hoping for another successful season in the La Liga this time round after finishing in an impressive 8th position in their first season after gaining promotion to the top division. Munoz will be aiming to finish in the top half of the league in his first season in charge.
Huelva have had a quiet start to the season, with two draws from two games against Real Betis and Getafe. Munoz will be looking at Sinama Pongolle to provide the goals up front after the Frenchman netted both the goals scored by Huelva so far.
Sevilla had won the fixture last season with a margin of 2-1 and Ramos will be looking to repeat the performance before embarking on the European campaign against Arsenal in the midweek. Watch Sevilla v Recreativo Huelva live on free-football.tv.

Villarreal started the season in a spectacular fashion, thrashing Valencia 3-0 in the first match of the season. Jon Dahl Tomasson, Giuseppe Rossi and Santi Cazorla scored for the Yellow Submarine as Villarreal started the season looking to improve on their fifth place finish from last season.
However Villarreal lost heavily to Real Madrid in their last match with Wesley Sneijder scoring two goals and Raul, Guti and Rudd van Nistelrooy all adding one each. The hosts were unable to chalk up any response, ending their nine match winning streak with a heavy defeat.
Meanwhile Mallorca have had a good start to the season, winning their first match against Levante 3-0 before holding Atletico Madrid to a 1-1 draw in their last match. Daniel Guiza had given Mallorca the lead and the visitors looked to have bagged another three points to maintain their perfect start to the season before Mariano Pernia scored the equalizer for Atletico 12 minutes from full time.
Villarreal had won the fixture last season with a margin of 2-1 and are once again favorites to win the match this time round. Kick off is scheduled at 16:00 (GMT) and you can watch Mallorca v Villarreal live here on free-football.tv.
Osasuna v Barcelona
Barcelona face a trip to Osasuna in their next La Liga clash as the Catalans look to build on their 3-1 victory in their last match to keep pace with league leaders Real Madrid.
After a disappointing start to the season with a 0-0 draw against Racing Santander in their first match of the season, Barca hit form with a convincing 3-1 victory against Athletic Bilbao. Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho scored two goals in the first half before Néstor Susaeta pulled one back for Athletic.
However Yaya Toure scored his first goal for Barca to make sure that his new team registers its first win of the new season. Thierry Henry is expected to start the match against Osasuna with Samuel Eto'o out with injury. Toure reported back from his international commitments for Ivory Coast with an injury to his right knee but could take part in the match
There was some good news for Frank Rijkaard after Eidur Gudjohnsen was declared fit by Barcelona medical staff and with just Henry being the only other striker available, the Barcelona coach will be happy to fall back on Gudjohnsen as backup. Carlos Puyol continued to take part in light training and is not expected to take part in the match against Osasuna.
Meanwhile Osasuna will be taking part in its second match of the season after their match against Sevilla was postponed following the death of Antonio Puerta. Osasuna's first game ended in a 0-0 draw against Athletic Bilbao and coach José Ángel Ziganda will be looking to kick start their season with a good performance against Barca.
Osasuna had managed to hold Barcelona to a 0-0 draw in this fixture last season and Ziganda will be happy with a repeat of the performance this time round. Watch Osasuna v Barcelona live on free-football.tv.
Murcia v Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid will be looking to get their season back on track when they face newly promoted side Murcia in their next La Liga clash on Sunday.
The start of the new season has been some sort of an anti climax for Atletico faithful after yet another season of heightening expectations was followed by a defeat to arch rivals Real Madrid and a disappointing 1-1 draw to Mallorca.
Atletico was in danger of losing its second match in a row after being outplayed by Mallorca for large portions of the match and going behind to Daniel Guiza's goal in the 19th minute. However the hosts equalized with just 12 minutes remaining through an unlikely source in the form of Mariano Pernia.
With Atletico deciding not to sign Argentina playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme in spite of fan pressure, coach Javier Aguirre will have to prove that his 80 million euro signings in the summer are enough for the club to compete for a Champions League place this season.
Aguirre has some injury worries ahead of the match with midfielder Cléber Santana set to miss the match after he sprained his right ankle in the friendly in Zamora while Christian Abbiati continues to struggle with his hand injury. There was some good news after former Murcia man Juan Valera recovered from torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
Meanwhile Murcia are off to a good start in the La Liga after collecting 4 points out of a possible 6. Murcia announced their arrival in the top division of Spanish football with a 2-1 victory over Real Zaragoza on the opening day of the season and impressed in the 0-0 draw at Levante.
Last time both the teams met was in the 2003-04 season and Murcia had managed to hold Atletico to a 2-2 draw, a result Murcia coach Lucas Alcaraz will be happy with this season.
