Sevilla v Getafe

Sevilla take on Getafe in the opening match of the new La Liga season. Fresh from humbling defending champions Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup, Sevilla hope to begin their season on a confident note. However there will be some unrest in the camp with rumors linking boss Juande Ramos to White Hart Lane where Tottenham have had a forgettable start to the English Premiership.

However Sevilla has a settled look as a team and even if Ramos were to take off, which the club has denied, Sevilla should still pose a headache or two for Barcelona and Real Madrid. Several new players including Chelsea's Khalid Boulahrouz and Udinese keeper Morgan De Sanctis make Sevilla a formidable team indeed.

Rumors linking Daniel Alves to Chelsea are also rife, but as yet no deal has been chalked out. Sevilla have rejected Chelsea's initial bid for the Brazilian and with just a week to go before the transfer period ends, it looks like he might stay put. Alves has indicated he might prefer Real Madrid if the Chelsea deal falls through, but things are volatile as yet.

On the injury front, Sevilla have a couple of worries as Escude is struggling with a groin strain and Navarro is out for at least six weeks with a knee injury. The latter had damaged his kneecap during training.

Getafe have no such problems and have a smooth look to their side. Their main signing has been French left back Franck Signorino from Nantes. The club finished ninth in the La Liga in 2006-07 season and will hope to put in a better performance this time around.

Last season Sevilla had pipped Getafe 1-0 in this fixture and will hope to repeat the same this season as well. Watch Sevilla v Getafe live on free-football.tv

Athletic Club Bilbao v Osasuna

Athletic Bilbao hope that new coach Joaquin Caparros will take them to new highs this season even as Jose Manuel Esnar stepped aside from his temporary role. Esnar had stepped in last September to take charge of a beleaguered Bilbao side who managed to just escape relegation from the Spanish La Liga last season.

The 51-year-old Caparros has had successful stints at Deportivo Coruna as well as Sevilla and Bilbao will hope these skills are enough to earn them a decent finish this season. Fans will be anxious to see that last season's heart stopping moments do not recur.

Bilbao are the only club along with Barcelona and Real Madrid to have never been relegated and they will hope to preserve this record intact this La Liga season as well. The club has made a number of transfers as it seeks to build on last year's showing.

Goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz has arrived on a four-year deal from rivals Espanyol, while midfielder Iñaki Muñoz has arrived from Osasuna and will relish the challenge of facing his old club in the first game. Aitor Ocio has also arrived at Bilbao from Sevilla as the new manager looks to boost his defense.

For Bilbao Yeste is an injury worry as he has been sidelined after a pubic bone surgery. He is expected to be out for two weeks.

Osasuna midfielder Hugo Viana has suffered a broken metatarsal and is expected to be out for four months dealing a severe blow to his side's La Liga aspirations. However Arsenal youngster Carlos Vela is in Osasuna for a year-long loan and will look to redeem himself at the club.

Osasuna coach Jose Angel Ziganda has brought in players like Javier Portillo, Nicolas Medina, Walter Pandiani and Vela, while Roberto Soldado, Savo Milosevic, Bernardo Romeo and Pierre Webo are on their way out.

Both teams will be looking forward to decent starts to their La Liga campaigns.

Racing Santander v Barcelona

Barcelona meet Racing Santander in the opening match of the new La Liga season at Estadio El Sardinero on August 26.

Barcelona lost the La Liga crown to arch rivals Real Madrid on a poor head to head result even though both the teams finished on 76 points. Reports of manager Frank Rijkaard leaving the club after finishing the season trophy less were unfounded as the Dutch manager has looked to strengthen his team not only for the coning season, but also for the future.

Barcelona have signed four new players in the summer including the transfer of the season in form of Thierry Henry. Other signings include Yaya Touré from Mónaco, Éric Abidal from Lyon and Gaby Milito from Zaragoza.

With the club finally getting the signature of Henry, Barcelona now has the deadliest strike force in the league, but whether the club does return to consistent ways remains to be seen. Inconsistent performances in the second half of the season were one of the main reasons for Barcelona to lose out from getting a third successive La Liga title.

Meanwhile Racing Santander fans will be hopeful that new manager Marcelino will provide the push needed for the club to compete for the European qualification spot. Racing finished at a respectable 10th position last season and Marcelino will be looking to better the position this season.

Four new players signed up for Racing including Jordi López and Alex Silva on a year long loan from Mallorca. Jorge López from Valencia and Aldo Duscher from Deportivo La Coruna were the two new signings for the club.

Barcelona completed the double over Racing last season, winning 2-0 at Camp Nou while thrashing Racing 3-0 at Estadio El Sardinero. Watch Racing Santander v Barcelona live on free-football.tv.

Deportivo La Coruna v Almeria

Deportivo La Coruna will begin the new La Liga season hoping to challenge for a top four position. Last season the club finished on the 13th spot, which is its lowest position ever since it returned to the La Liga in 1991.

Deportivo have a new manager in Lotina who has signed from Real Sociedad and the club will hope for better results under him. Former manager Joaquin Caparros has joined rivals Athletic Bilbao and it will be interesting to see which club progresses further. Real Sociedad were relegated last season and have roped in former Fulham manager Chris Coleman to do duty for them. Meanwhile Deportivo have signed Mexican international midfielder Andres Guardado as their first signing.

Guardado was being hunted by Real Madrid and Manchester United, but chose Deportivo over both the premier clubs. Felipe Luis has extended his loan period at Deportivo, while Aythami, Lafita and Jairo have also arrived at the club. But the club is sure to feel the loss of Andrade to Juventus. The former had held the midfield of the team together for many years and his loss is sure to be felt.

Meanwhile Almeria have been promoted to top flight La Liga this season and it is not clear what their prospects are at the moment. However the club has made some decent signings in the form of Felipe Melo, Dos Santos and Diego Alves.

Almeria will be hoping for a good beginning to their season and will be happy to stay in the top flight for the next year as well.

Recreativo Huelva v Real Betis

Recreativo Huelva finished last season on a high at the eighth position and will hope to challenge for higher places this year. The club has been on a signing spree and has brought in goalkeeper Mariano Barbosa from rivals Villarreal.

The Argentinean chose not to extend his contract at Villarreal as he was unable to displace Sebastián Viera and Diego Lopez from top status at the club. The club have named Víctor Muñoz as their new coach after Marcelino García opted to sign for Real Racing Club Santander.

The 50-year-old brings a rich vein of experience with him as he successfully coached RCD Mallorca, Villarreal CF, Real Zaragoza and Panathinaikos FC. Meanwhile Recreativo are looking to sign Mbo Mpenza and are said to be actively scouting for him. No deal has yet been finalized.

Meanwhile Florent Sinama-Pongolle has made his loan move from Liverpool permanent. He scored 12 goals in La Liga last season and chose to shift over to Recreativo permanently. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Real Betis have also made several signings and have offered a contract to Newcastle United winger Albert Luque. However Luque has asked for a three-year deal as opposed to the one year offered by Betis.

Héctor Cúper has been brought in as the new manager, while Babic, Mark González and Ricardo have also arrived at the club. The club have also signed Argentina midfielder Leandro Somoza on loan and will be hoping to better their 16th position in the La Liga last season.

Valencia v Villarreal

Valencia play Villarreal live in their first match of the new season at the Mestalla stadium on Saturday. The hosts will be fresh from the 3-0 thrashing of Elfsborg in the first leg of the Champions League third qualifying round.

Having finished in fourth place behind Sevilla last season, Quique Sánchez Flores' men will be eager to put up a title challenge this time round. Valencia last won the La Liga title in 2004 and fans will be hoping that the players bring home the trophy this season.

Flores has so far signed seven new players including Stuttgart keeper Timo Hildebrand, Javier Arizmendi, Alexis, Iván Helguera and Nikola Zigic. Portuguese defender Marco Caneira returns from his loan period at Sporting Lisbon and is expected to play a back up role this season.

Meanwhile Villarreal will be without defender Gonzalo Rodríguez who was diagnosed with a ligament cruciate and lateral rupturing in his right knee and will be out of action for at least six months. Villarreal finished in 5th spot last season, four points behind Valencia. Fans will be expecting the club to go one step further and qualify for the Champions League this season.

Villarreal have signed six new players in the summer including Joan Capdevila from Deportivo La Coruna and Giuseppe Rossi from Manchester United. Though the club had agreed to sign Roberto Ayala from Valencia in February, the Argentina captain decided to rescind his contract with Villarreal and join Zaragoza instead.

Villarreal won the fixture last season with a margin of 3-2 but had lost to Valencia in the home fixture. Watch Valencia v Villarreal live here on free-football.tv.

Espanyol v Valladolid

Espanyol kick start their new season with a match against newly promoted Valladolid at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on Saturday.

Espanyol finished in a disappointing 12th position last season and fans will be hoping for a better performance in this season. Manager Ernesto Valverde has signed four new players this season including the loan signings of Clemente Rodríguez from Spartak Moscow and Lafuente from Athletic Bilbao.

Meanwhile La Liga newcomers Valladolid have been busy in the transfer market this summer, brining in as many as eight new players to the club. Butelle, Estoyanoff and Sisi have been brought on loan from Valencia while Vivar Dorado, Camacho, Ogbeche and Jonathan Sesma have signed permanent deals with the club.

Last time the two teams met was in the 2003-04 La Liga season where Espanyol won the fixture with a margin of 2-0. However Valladolid had earlier won its home game by a convincing margin of 3-1. Watch Espanyol v Valladolid live on free-football.tv.

Real Murcia v Real Zaragoza

Real Zaragoza meet Real Murcia in the opening match of the new La Liga season at the Estadio Nueva Condomina on Saturday. Zaragoza finished in an impressive 6th position in the La Liga last season, just six points away from qualifying for the Champions League. Though Zaragoza were level on points with Atletico Madrid, better head to head results meant that Víctor Fernández's men finished in the final UEFA Cup spot available.

Zaragoza has had a very busy summer in the transfer market, with as many as ten new players signing up for the club. Real Madrid's Carlos Diogo and Wolfsburg's Andrés d'Alessandro signed up permanent contracts with the club after completing their loan periods while Roberto Ayala rescinded his contract with Villarreal to join Fernández's team.

Murcia gained promotion to La Liga by finishing third in the Segunda División and spent the summer strengthening almost all areas of the squad. Murcia have so far signed 11 players including Fabián Carini from Inter Milan and Mejía from Real Madrid.

Last time both the teams met in La Liga was during the 2003-04 season when Murcia won the fixture by 1-0. Watch Real Murcia v Real Zaragoza live on free-football.tv.

Mallorca v Levante

Real Mallorca play Levante in the opening match of the new La Liga season at the ONO Estadi on Saturday. Having finished in the bottom half of the table, both the teams will be looking to improve on their performances from the last season.

Having established itself as a mid table club, Mallorca fans will be eager to see the club progress in the league. Manager Gregorio Manzano has signed six new players in the summer including a loan move for Valencia's David Navarro. Other players include Germán Lux from River Plate, Osasuna's Webó and Atletico Madrid's Molinero.
