After a two week international break, FC Bayern will be looking for their first win in four league games when they travel to Wildparkstadion to play Karlsruher. Bayern Munich have had one of their worst league starts this season, and going into this clash, are just one spot above Karlsruhe in the league table.
With a tricky away Champions League fixture in Italy to follow, Bayern need to win this game. They need not look beyond the corresponding fixture last season between these two sides for inspiration- Bayern thrashed Karlsruhe 4-1, with Klose, Luca Toni, Hamit Altintop and Ze Roberto scoring. Pressure is mounting on Jurgen Klinsmann, who desperately needs to come up with a winning formula. Bayern have conceded nine times in their last three league games, and threw away a two goal lead with ten minutes left on the clock to draw 3-3 with Bochum in their last league game. Mark Van Bommel is in line for a return after being on the bench for the last two games. Michael Rensing is short on confidence, and a clean sheet here will do him a world of good.
Karlsruher come into this game after winning their last two league games against Wolfsburg and Arminia Bielefeld. Against Bielefeld, they won 2-1, with Porcello and Freis scoring in their second game running to give them their first away win of the season. Coach Edmund Becker prefers to play a 4-2-3-1, with two holding midfielders. Bayern’s midfield has been a bit weak defensively, and Karlsruhe will look to take advantage of that. Karlsruhe are on the same number of points as Bayern, but have a negative goal difference. Striker Sebastien Freis has scored in all but one of Karlsruhe’s league games this season.
