Juventus will be making their first appearance in the Champions League after a gap of two seasons when they take on Zenit St Petersburg this Wednesday. Juve had been relegated to the second division of Italian football after being found guilty of match fixing scandal. Watch live Champions League action on Live Sport Network.

 

 

Juventus finished third in the league last season and qualified for the group stages after beating Artmedia Petrzalka 5-1 on aggregate. The Italian club will be hoping to build on their performances in the Champions League before their relegation when they had qualified for the quarter finals of the competition in their last two appearances.

Manager Claudio Ranieri will be hoping that his side gets off to a good start in the group stages with Real Madrid and Zenit St Petersburg also vying for the qualification to the knockout stages. Juventus have a good record at home in the Champions League, winning eight and drawing two of their last ten matches and are yet to taste a defeat at home in the group stages since their 3-1 defeat to SV Hamburger back in October 2000.

 

 

Zenit St Petersburg on the other hand will be looking to repeat their heroics from last season that saw them pick up the UEFA Cup title for the first time in the club's history. The Russian club has already tasted European success this season, beating Manchester United in the UEFA Super Cup last month.

This will be the first time that Zenit is taking part in the Champions League and though the club is expected to finish third behind Juventus and Real Madrid, coach Dick Advocaat will be looking to make it to the knockout stages in the first attempt.
