Juventus took full advantage of AC Milan’s impromptu slip up last weekend when they surpassed them in the Serie A league table by claiming second position with a win over Catania with a dramatic last minute winner. To say that Juventus’ victory over Catania last weekend was dramatic is in itself an understatement. After taking the lead in the tenth minute with a goal from Iaquinta, Juventus soon found themselves (12^th minute) down to ten men due to the sending off of the goal scorer himself. Claudio Ranieri’s team then faced 78 minutes of playing the opposition with one player short. Almost inevitably, Catania managed to score an equaliser, but this didn’t come until the early stages of the second half. All indications were that Juventus would eventually tire and give Catania ample opportunity to snatch a winner.

On the contrary though, Juve held on resolutely and to their eternal credit managed to snatch a dramatic last minute winner with a strike by Poulsen. Ranieri will be absolutely delighted that his team managed to pull this one out of the fire and will know that his players will go in to Sunday’s game against Sampdoria with renewed optimism for a great run in to the Serie A championship.

On the injury front though, things seem to be going from bad to worse. News of Cristiano Zanetti and Giorgio Chiellini’s injuries were swiftly followed by Paolo De Ceglie injury which rules him out six weeks. Despite this run of bad luck with injuries, Juventus seem to be thriving on adversary and keep hanging on in there.

For their part, Sampdoria come in to the game against Juventus on the back of a 2-2 home draw with Siena. They are now fifteenth in the league with a total of 25 points. Their away form is poor with only one win and three draws in their ten games away from home.
