Ciro Ferrara will be optimistic of making a winning start to his managerial career in the Champions League when his Juventus side takes on Bordeaux in their opening group match of the competition on Tuesday. The former Italian international has had a good start to his reign at Juventus, winning his first two matches in the domestic league. With Bordeaux presenting the only challenge to Juventus and Bayern Munich for the two qualifying places for the knockout round, Ferrara will be hoping to collect vital three points which will put them in a strong position to progress to the next round.

Juventus had a decent European campaign last season, topping their group by beating Real Madrid both in Spain and Italy but failed to secure the required results against Chelsea in the knockout stage. The Bianconeri have a very good home record against French opponents, winning eight of their nine European games on Italian soil.

While Bordeaux are yet to qualify for the knockout stages in the past 10 years, coach Laurent Blanc will be confident of causing an upset in the group and progress ahead of either Juventus or Bayern Munich.

The French club lifted the Ligue 1 title for the first time since 1999 last season and Blanc will be optimistic of taking his side's domestic form into Europe. However Bordeaux have never won a game in Italy, managing just two draws in their last seven visits.
