Scotland have failed to qualify for next year's world cup and are now focusing on qualifying for Euro 2012. Manager George Burley has retained his job for now and will need to prove his credentials if he is to stay on. However his plans have been hit by an injury crisis in the national team. Scott Brown, Steven Naismith and Shaun Maloney are out with injury, while Danny Fox, Robert Snodgrass, Kevin Thomson and Garry O'Connor are also nursing various niggles. Fox has a slight hamstring tear, which caused him to miss the Old Firm derby. He withdrew from the national squad immediately afterward.

Stephen McManus, Graham Dorrans, Christophe Berra and Charlie Adam are expected to feature in the game despite carrying some knocks. James McFadden and Ross McCormack are still recovering from injuries and were excused from this trip by Burley.

Lee Miller and Lee Wallace have been drafted into the squad and could make an appearance in this game. Derek Riordan has been recalled into the national squad and is expected to lead his side's attack in Japan.

Meanwhile Japan have already qualified for the World Cup 2010 and will hope to test themselves against top teams before they choose a final squad. Japan coach Takeshi Okada is keen to test new players in this game and could hand debuts to a couple of youngsters.
