Japan will be looking to improve on their recent poor performances before the start of their World Cup campaign by registering a morale boosting victory over Ivory Coast in a friendly game on Friday. The Japanese have lost their last three friendly games including against South Korea and England last week leading to former coach Philippe Troussier criticizing Takeshi Okada for the style of play and calling for axing Shunsuke Nakamura to the bench.

Following their disappointing 2-0 defeat to South Korea, Japan improved against England, taking a shock early lead through Marcus Tanaka. England looked to be heading towards an embarrassing defeat only for Tanaka to level the scores through an own goal late in the game before another own goal by Yuji Nakazawa handed England the victory.

Ivory Coast too will be hoping for a better performance from their last game with Sven-Goran Eriksson's first match of the team ending in a thrilling 2-2 draw against Paraguay. The Elephants looked to be cruising towards a comfortable victory after taking a 2-0 lead through Didier Drogba and Sol Bamba only for Paraguay to level the scores late in the game.
