The defending champions struggled to stamp their authority over Paraguay and needed a second half goal from Daniele De Rossi to collect at least a point from the game after the South American side had taken a first half lead through Antolín Alcaraz.

Lippi expressed his disappointment over the performance and said that his side will have to be more effective in the final third of the pitch if they are to repeat their unexpected triumph from last time around.

New Zealand fans on the other hand will be happy with their side’s performance in the competition after just the opening game that saw them grab a dramatic late equalizer to clinch their first point in the history of the competition.
