Italy, the defending World Champions, are well on their way to South Africa topping Group 8 with 14 points from six games played so far. The arrival of Marcello Lippi as coach seems to have revived the Azzurri no end as their woeful days in Euro 2008 are well behind them.

Lippi would have been satisfied with his team's showing in a friendly against Northern Ireland over the weekend when they beat the Irish 3-0. Goals from Giuseppe Rossi, Pasquale Foggia and Sergio Pellissier made it easy for the Italians, who will be participating in the Confederations Cup by virtue of winning the World Cup in 2006.

Lippi experimented with a new-look and youthful side against Northern Ireland and that trend should continue in this game as well as the wily Italian looks to build a team for the future.

Meanwhile New Zealand will be looking to register their first win on global stage in the Confederations Cup in this their third appearance. The Kiwis finished on top of the Oceania qualifying group and will battle it out in a play -off with the fifth placed Asian nation for the right to play in the World Cup.

New Zealand coach Ricki Herbert has a youthful side at his disposal, but will miss the services of captain Ryan Nelson, who tore a calf muscle while playing for Blackburn in last season's Premiership.
