Marcello Lippi's first competitive match after returning as the Italy coach ended in a narrow victory against Cyprus in their opening World Cup qualifying clash on Saturday. He will hope Italy’s game against Georgia is much better. Watch all the live football action here on Live Sport Network.

 

 

Lippi will not have been impressed by his side's performance against a team that Italy should have comfortably cruised past with a sizeable lead. Antonio Di Natale scored both the goals in Italy's 2-1 win over Cyprus and though his side lost the match, coach Angelos Anastasiadis will be pleased that his players managed to provide some uncomfortable moments for the defending world champions.

Italy looked on course for a comfortable victory after Di Natale had given them an early lead in the 8th minute but Efstathios Aloneftis equalized for Cyprus in the 28th minute and almost snatched a point for his side before Di Natale scored the winner in stoppage time.

 

 

Lippi will be hoping that his side will improve against a Georgia side that had held Denmark and Ukraine to draws in the 2006 World Cup qualifiers. Italy was grouped with Georgia in their Euro 2008 qualifiers and managed to win both in their matches by a two goal margin.
