Donadoni will also be hit by news that Cristiano Zanetti has all but announced his retirement from international football. The Juventus star said that he was only thinking of his club and had decided to retire from internationals after the European Championships in 2004.

Meanwhile Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has named a 19-man squad for the Italy clash and has included under-21 international goalkeeper Rui Patrício in the squad. Deco and Petit also find a place in the squad.

Miguel, Miguel Veloso and Manuel Fernandes do not find any place in the squad, while Pepe and Simão miss out through calf and thigh injuries respectively.
