Manchester United face their toughest test in the defense of their Champions League crown when they visit Inter Milan in their knockout stage first leg match on Wednesday. Catch all the live footy feeds from that game here on Live Sport Network.

The defending champions struggled to stamp their authority in the group stages, managing just two wins and four draws in the six matches but finished at the top of the group table. United have qualified to the quarter finals in their last two seasons and will be looking to make it three times in a row by repeating 1998-99 performance when they beat Inter 3-2 on aggregate in the quarter finals en route to their final triumph over Bayern Munich.

However Inter manager Jose Mourinho will be having other ideas as he looks to maintain his recent superiority over Alex Ferguson. The Portuguese manager has already dumped out Manchester United once in his career, helping Porto secure a 3-2 aggregate win over United in the quarter finals of the 2003-04 edition.

 

 

Mourinho also secured four wins and lost just once in the 10 matches against United as the Chelsea manager and will be confident of helping Inter qualify to the quarter finals for the first time in three seasons.

However the Nerazzurri have struggled for form in the competition, winning two and losing two of their six group stages matches to finish second in their table. two points behind Panathinaikos.

 

 

United are facing a defensive injury crisis with the English champions without first choice defender Nemanja Vidic who is banned for the match while Wes Brown, Jonny Evans and Gary Neville are all injured. Manager Alex Ferguson will be hoping that John O’Shea would have recovered in time for the game on Wednesday barring which he will be forced to field reserve team player James Chester.
