A result all the more surprising because the bottom placed team took the lead in the 38^th minute; a lead that lasted until the 67^th minute when Kaka equalised for Milan via the penalty spot. Kaka subsequently suffered a knock to his left foot and was substituted. This means that the player will now be unavailable for the derby game and this is a bitter blow for the team.

Milan have now dropped eight points behind their city rivals in the Serie A table and a defeat on Sunday will effectively end all hopes of a league title success this season. A win for Inter though, will mean that Mourinho’s team will be well on their way to recording a fifth consecutive league title success.
