Having suffered heavy defeats to both Manchester United and Arsenal, Wigan were expected to struggle once again against a Chelsea side that had won all of their first six games. However Wigan had other plans as they secured a shock win over the Blues who were outplayed by the Latics throughout the game.

Wigan took the lead through a headed goal by Titus Bramble in the 16th minute. However Didier Drogba equalized for the Blues just two minutes into the second half setting up the stage for a second half comeback from the league leaders. However it was not to be as Wigan restored their lead through Hugo Rodallega before Paul Scharner completed the scoring in the final minute of the game.

Hull City on the other hand have failed to improve on their disastrous form that stretches back to December last year with the Tigers managing to collect just four points from their first seven games.

Hull find themselves just one spot above the foot of the league table thanks to the woeful run at Fratton Park and have already lost five games this season. Pressure is steadily building on manager Phil Brown with fans calling for his head though club chairman Paul Duffen has assured Brown that his job is safe for the time being.
