Hull City needed to play a replay against Newcastle in their third round to progress through. A late winner from Daniel Cousin in the replay gave the Tigers a safe passage to this round. The win ended a miserable run for the Tigers who are struggling in the Premier League after some promising early results.

The match will be remembered for the heated exchange between Hull manager Phil Brown and Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear, who were sent to the stands by referee Phil Dowd. Both managers have also been charged with improper conduct by the FA as well.

 

 

Hull have brought in Kevin Kilbane from Wigan in the January transfer window and have secured the services of Manchester United striker Manucho on loan for this season. However George Boateng has knee ligament damage and could miss the action for three months.

League One side Millwall progressed through to the fourth round after a fascinating 2-3 win over Crewe in the previous round. Luke Murphy had put Crewe ahead, but Scott Baron leveled for the Lions. Milwall went 2-1 up after Neil Harris scored a club record 112th goal. Shaun Miller equalized, but Zak Whitbread's late header sealed the game for the visitors.

 

 

Millwall boss Kenny Jackett has brought in Izale McLeod on loan from Charlton, while Paul Robinson and Tony Craig are back from suspension. Zak Whitbread has recovered from a pelvic injury and should feature in this game.
