Hull have begun very badly in a season that is expected to test their mettle and that of their manager Phil Brown as well. The Tigers have lost three games, won one and drawn the other in their five matches played so far.

Last week they succumbed 4-1 to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in what was an inept performance all round. Two goals from Darren Bent and one from Andy Reid turned the tide the Black Cats' way. Kamil Zayatte had the misfortune of scoring two goals in the match one for each side.

Manager Brown will hope he can hang onto strikers Caleb Folan and Daniel Cousin, who are talking with Championship clubs on possible loan moves.

Meanwhile Birmingham City are also placed in the bottom half of the table, which is not such a good sign so early in the season. The Blues have a record that mirrors Hull's, but are placed higher due to a better goal difference. Last week, Birmingham sank to a 1-0 derby defeat against Aston Villa thanks to a goal from Gabriel Agbonlahor. Blues boss Alex McLeish will hope his side can gain full points from this encounter so as to settle some early nerves among fans.
