The defending champions were made to work hard for their narrow quarter final win over Panama with the Los Canaleros taking the lead on the stroke of half time through Blas Perez. The lead however lasted just four minutes into the second half when Kyle Beckerman equalized for the United States.

The match ended in a stalemate in regular time and both the teams were unable to find the target at the end of the first half in extra time. Just when it looked as if the game would go all the way down to penalty shootouts, the United States were awarded a penalty in the 106th minute when Roman Torres was adjudged to have kicked Kenny Cooper in the stomach and the 24-year old made no mistake from the spot to send his team into the semi finals.

They take on a Honduras side which managed to sneak in a narrow 1-0 win over Canada in the other quarter final game. Walter Martinez slotted home from the penalty spot 10 minutes before the half time whistle to set up a match against the United States for a second time in this tournament.

Both the teams had already met in the group stages with the Yanks registering a comfortable 2-0 win. Bob Bradley will be expecting more of the same from his side on Thursday though Honduras will be fancying themselves for an upset after putting up some good performances in the competition.
