Honduras currently have 13 points from eight games. Should Reinaldo Rueda’s side beat the United States and fourth placed Costa Rica lose to Trinidad and Tobago, they will qualify for the World Cup as they are then guaranteed of a top three finish.

In Round 8, Honduras were beaten 1-0 by Mexico. Wigan defender Maynor Figueroa was adjudged to have brought Giovani Dos Santos down in the box, and Cuauhtemoc Blanco dispatched the resulting penalty to give Mexico a crucial win. Los Catrachos will be hoping that Carlos Costly and Carlos Pavon, who have together scored 11 goals between them in qualifying, will shine against Bob Bradley’s men.

The USA are in prime position to qualify for the 2010 World Cup after their 1-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago in the previous round. Ricardo Clark’s 62^nd minute long range effort proved to be the difference between the two teams in Port of Spain.

Midfielder Clint Dempsey will miss this game with a shoulder sprain. As many as seven players- Jozy Altidore, Carlos Bocanegra, Conor Casey, Steve Cherundolo, Ricardo Clark, Landon Donovan and Benny Feilhaber, are one yellow card away from a suspension. Coach Bob Bradley must decide whether to play them and risk some of them not being available for the last qualifier against Costa Rica.
