Honduras are currently third in the six member group, with seven points from five games. A victory against group leaders Costa Rica could reignite their hopes of qualifying for the quadrennial extravaganza in South Africa next year.

In their last qualifier in June, Honduras beat El Salvador 1-0. Real Espana forward Carlos Pavon scored the winner for Los Catrachos. As mentioned earlier, Honduras also reached the last four of the 2009 Gold Cup before losing to the United States. A lot will depend on how the duo of Carlo Costly and Walter Martinez, who together scored four times in the Gold Cup, perform.

Costa Rica currently lead the group with 12 points from five games. They have only been beaten once in the fourth round- by Mexico in March. With tricky qualifiers against the United States, Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago left, Costa Rica would ideally want to give themselves some breathing space by beating Honduras.

Like their opponents, Costa Rica reached the semifinals of the Gold Cup before losing to eventual winners Mexico on penalties. Striker Froylan Ledezma missed his spot kick as Mexico triumphed 5-3 in the shootout. Celso Borges, Andry Herron and Alvaro Saborio all netted twice in the tournament for the Ticos.
