Newcastle United take on Hertha Berlin in their next pre season friendly on Friday with manager Kevin Keegan looking to test his side's ability against stronger teams after two matches against lower league opponents.

The Magpies started their pre season schedule with a thumping 4-1 victory over Hartlepool United but had so suffer an embarrassing defeat against Doncaster Rovers on Saturday. Following the clash against Hertha, Newcastle next play Real Mallorca before ending their pre season stint with matches against PSV Eindhoven and Valencia at St James Park.

Keegan has had a frustrating time in the transfer window, managing to snap just two players so far in the form of Jonas Gutierrez and Danny Guthrie from Liverpool while Giovanni Dos Santos and Luka Modric preferred Tottenham Hotspur.

Meanwhile Hertha Berlin will be looking to maintain their brilliant start to the new season. Lucien Favre's side have all but secured qualification to the UEFA Cup second qualifying round with a 8-1 demolition of FC Nistru Otaci. Hertha then held Liverpool to a 0-0 draw in front of a cheering home crowd of nearly 51684 fans.
