Hamburg knocked out Galatasaray 4-3 on aggregate in the round of 16. The Turkish side had drawn the first leg 1-1 in Germany, and were 2-0 up in Istanbul with just over half an hour to go, before Hamburg produced an incredible comeback to win 3-2. Peruvian striker Jose Guerrero scored twice in three minutes, and the hard working Ivica Olic snuck in a late winner to send Hamburg into the quarter finals.

Hamburg are in great form domestically too. They beat TSG Hoffenheim 1-0 in their weekend Bundesliga game, and are on the same number of points as leaders Wolfsburg, who are ahead on goal difference. Jerome Boateng is suspended for Hamburg. Fellow defender Guy Demel is definitely out, while Alex Silva is struggling to be fit.

 

 

Man City nearly committed hara-kiri in the second leg against Aalborg by allowing the Danish giants two late goals, but emerged triumphant in the shoot out. Mark Hughes’ men are playing in the quarterfinals of this tournament for the first time in 30 years. City were disappointing on Saturday against Arsenal. They lost 2-0, and the fans were clearly not pleased with the effort some of the City players put in. Defender Wayne Bridge suffered a recurrence of his hamstring problem and is out of this first leg clash. Stephen Ireland and Vincent Kompany are serious fitness doubts too.
