The Cottagers upset reigning German champions Wolfsburg in the quarterfinals. They won 2-1 at Craven Cottage and followed it up with a 1-0 win at the Volkswagen Arena to progress 3-1 on aggregate.

Hamburg beat Standard Liege 5-2 on aggregate but the North Germans did not have it easy in both legs. Croatian forward Mladen Petric, who scored twice in the return leg against Standard, will miss this tie because of a groin tear.

Hamburg’s recent Bundesliga form has been a cause of concern for their supporters. They have won only once in their last six games and were beaten 1-0 by Mainz on Saturday. Fulham, on the other hand, drew blanks against relegation threatened Wolves. Roy Hodgson’s men will have to pay special attention to Dutch veteran Ruud van Nistelrooy, who scored a wonder goal against the London outfit while plying his trade for Man United.
