Meanwhile Costa Rica progressed to this stage as runners-up in Group A behind Canada. In their final group game, Costa Rica managed to hold Canada to a 2-02 draw thanks to goals from Andy Herron and Walter Centeno, which nullified strikes from Patrice Bernier and Marcel de Jong.

Costa Rica coach Rodrigo Kenton will hope his team can fire on all fronts and advance to the semi-finals of the competition for only the third time ever.
