The Argentines thrashed Korea 4-1 in their last fixture to all but seal progress to the last 16. Coach Diego Maradona made only one change to the side that had beaten Nigeria in the group opener, bringing in Maxi Rodriguez for the injured Juan Sebastian Verson. Park Chu Young’s own goal set Argentina on their way and the Albicelestes doubled their advantage in the 33^rd minute through Gonzalo Higuain.

Although Korea pulled one back on the stroke of half time, Higuain scored two more times in the second half to net the first hat trick of the 2010 World Cup.  The performance silenced many of Diego Maradona’s staunchest critics and has significantly reduced odds on them winning the title.

Greece kept their hopes of qualifying alive with a 2-1 win over Nigeria. The Africans seemed in control of the tie after Kalu Uche’s free kick had given them the lead, but Sanu Kaita gave Greece an opening when he needlessly got himself sent off. Dimitrios Salpingidis’ equaliser, Greece’s first ever goal at the World Cup finals, put them level and had them smelling blood. Vasillis Torosidis then capitalised on an error from Nigerian keeper Enyeama in the 72^nd minute to give the Greeks their first ever World Cup win.
