Udinese midfielder Gaetano D'Agostinois in line to make a debut for his national side after being called up for the first time by Lippi. D'Agostino is joined by team mate Simone Pepe who was one of the surprise call ups for Italy's matches against Bulgaria and Montenegro.

Pepe retains his place in the national squad along with club team mate Fabio Quagliarella as Lippi looks to experiment with his tactics and line up ahead of crucial qualifying games against Montenegro and Republic of Ireland in March next year.

 

 

Juventus forward Alessandro Del Piero failed to make it to the national squad in spite of impressing for his club with a number of eye catching displays that has helped them overcome a weak start to the domestic season and Lippi has once again reiterated that he is looking to check out younger options than select the 34-year old.

Vincenzo Iaquinta has been called up to the national squad in spite of the Juventus forward rarely starting for his club where Del Piero is the first choice striker. With both Gianluigi Buffon and Marco Amelia out of contention with injuries, the goal keeper position is up from grabs with Gianluca Curci and Morgan De Sanctis vying for the jersey.

 

 

Meanwhile Greece will be looking to maintain their excellent form in the qualifiers with a victory over Italy. Otto Rehhagel's side are currently sitting top of their group table with nine points from their first four matches and are favorites to qualify to the World Cup from the group.
