Greece v Malta LiveGreece can afford to take it easy when they clash with Malta in a Euro 2008 qualifier on November 17 simply because they have already booked a ticket to Austria and Switzerland for the Euro 2008 finals next year. For bottom placed Malta the clash is an opportunity to redeem their pride.
Greece coach Otto Rehhagel has named Panathinaikos FC striker Evangelos Mantzio in his squad to face Malta and Hungary in their final qualifying games. Mantzios returns to the squad after having last appeared in the 1-0 defeat by Korea in February.
Olympiacos CFP defender Paraskevas Antzas and FC Nürnberg striker Angelos Charistea will miss the final qualifiers through injuries. While the former has a thigh issue, the latter is suffering from ankle problems. Greece though can afford to rest top players and perhaps that is why Rehhagel has opted to rest his premier players.
Malta though appear to be destined to finish at the bottom of Group C after the lost 3-2 to Moldova last month. Frunza scored a brace for Moldova in that game and ensured that Malta will have to cop the wooden spoon in Group C
Malta coach Dušan Fitzel has been hampered by injuries to key players as well. Captain Gilbert Agius is out with an undisclosed injury, while Luke Dimech and Ivan Woods are suspended for the game in Greece. George Mallia has asked to be excused for personal reasons.
Malta squad wears a new look, but coach Fitzel wants to end on a high note and has thanked fans for their loyal support throughout the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign.
Greece top Group C with 25 points from 10 games, while Malta have bottomed out with five points from 10 games. Watch Greece v Malta Live on free-football.tv. Tags: Greece, Euro 2008 finals, Malta, Euro 2008 qualifying, Malta Live Posted: |
