The Swiss Super League started last weekend and Grasshoppers managed to draw their first game against Neuchatel Xamax. Vincenzo Rennella gave Grasshoppers the lead in the 76^th minute of the game. The Italian striker capitalised on a defensive error from Xamax defender Omar Ismaeel to fire past the opposition keeper. Xamax equalised four minutes later when a perfect cross from the left flank saw Sanel Kuljic head home.

This is Liverpool’s first pre-season friendly of 2010 after their game against Saudi Arabian champions Al Hilal at the Cashpoint Arena was called off due to heavy rain. New Serbian signing Milan Jovanovic was not supposed to feature against Al Hilal, but could make an appearance against Grasshoppers.

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson knows Grasshoppers boss Ciriaco Sforza well - he coached the latter while in charge of the Swiss national team as well as Italian club Internazionale Milano.
