Last season Gillingham lost out to Barnet in the first round of the FA Cup by a 2-1 margin. Yakubu and Hatch canceled out Graham's 26th minute strike to give Barnet the win. This season, Gillingham have done much better going two steps forward in this competition.

 

 

The club progressed through by beating Stockport County in the second round. The first game ended in a 0-0 draw, but Gillingham beat Stockport 2-1 in the replay with a brace from Barcham, while the home side scored through Gleeson. Gillingham boss Mark Stimson does not harbor high hopes from his side and has admitted that the third round may be as far as they can go in this competition.

Meanwhile Aston Villa will hope that their great form in the Premiership and the UEFA Cup will allow them to progress further without much ado. Last season the Villans fell in the fourth round of the FA Cup to Manchester United with Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo scoring the winning goals.

 

 

Manager Martin O'Neill has a settled side this time around although skipper Martin Laursen is out injured. John Carew is also battling back injuries, which may require surgery. But the form of youngsters like Gabriel Agbonlahor has ignited hopes at Villa Park that their club may grab a Champions League spot this season.
