The Black Stars lived up to their star billing as they played free flowing football. They hit the post thrice during the first 45 minutes, but were unable to put the ball in the back of the net.
However it was through a penalty that Ghana went ahead. A foul by Oumar Kalabane inside the area on 54 minutes handed Ghana a golden chance to go ahead, which they duly did thanks to Asamoah Gyan. Guinea hit back almost immediately with Kalabane making amends for his earlier foul with a headed equalizer in the 64th minute.
Just when it looked like Ghana's title aspirations would be dealt a severe blow, Portsmouth midfielder Sulley Muntari unleashed a ferocious drive from 25 yards out on 89 minutes to give the home side a memorable win. The win eases the pressure on Ghana and they now have virtually one step into the quarterfinals.
Namibia on the other hand were soundly trashed by Morocco 5-1 in their opening game. The unfortunate Brave Warriors were unable to prevent a marauding Moroccan side from laying siege to their goal.
The Atlas Lions began the goal fest earl on with Soufiane Alloudi scoring two goals in the space of five minutes just after the start. However Brian Brendell pulled one back for Namibia within 15 minutes. Just when it began to look like the game would be a neat contest, Soufiane Alloudi scored his hat-trick to extinguish Namibian hopes. Tarek Sektioui and Moncef Zerka were the other goals corers for Morocco.
The loss means Namibia are almost out of the tournament even before it began. But Namibia manager Arie Schans will hope his team can put a better performance against Ghana.
