Wales bounced back from their disappointing defeat to Russia with a convincing 2-0 victory at home to Liechtenstein on Saturday. David Edwards put the hosts in the lead three minutes before the half time whistle before Ched Evans secured all three points for Wales by doubling the lead 10 minutes before full time.

The win leaves Wales with six points from their first three matches and with Russia losing out to Germany on Saturday, coach John Toshack finds his team in a good position to put up a real challenge for qualifying out of the group provided they manage to avoid defeat against Germany on Wednesday.

 

 

Joachim Low's side will be high on confidence after securing a narrow 2-1 win against Russia on Saturday. Germany went into the match following a disappointing draw away to Finland in their last match and looked in danger of dropping more points against Russia on Saturday.

Lukas Podolski had given the hosts an early lead in the ninth minute before Michael Ballack doubled the lead a minute before the half time whistle. Andrei Arshavin pulled one back for the visitors in the 51st minute and Russia threatened to level the scores late in the game but Germany hung on to claim a vital win against a side that is one of the favorites to qualify from the group.

 

 

A win for Germany will see them go at least three points clear at the top of the group table regardless of the result between Finland and Russia and Low will be hoping that his side can deliver the goods on Wednesday.
