Germany coach Joachim Low has decided he can test the reserve strength of his squad seeing that they are in a comfortable position at the top of Group 4 in the World Cup 2010 qualifying stage. Mesut Ozil is eligible to play for Turkey as well and the Turkish Football Association has let him know he would be welcome to represent that country.

However Low explained that Ozil had indicated he wished to pursue a career with Germany. Once Mesut Ozil appears in a German shirt, he cannot play for any other national team as per existing rules.

 

 

Low has excluded Robert Enke and Lukas Podolski from the squad. The latter is yet to regain match fitness following a spate of injuries and Low reckons he needs more time to get back to his usual self.

Stefan Kiessling has been called up as replacement for Podolski. Michael Ballack and Torsten Frings have been recalled to the squad after being omitted for last year's friendly against England.

 

 

Meanwhile new Norway coach Egil Olsen, who replaced Aage Hareide, has named Borre Stenslid, Tor Honge Aaroy and Mounir Hamoud in the squad to face Germany. All three players have earned their first call-ups and are likely to feature in the game as well. Norway need to pull up their socks as they are languishing at the bottom of Group Nine in the race to qualify for South Africa 2010.
