European giants Germany can take another step towards qualifying for the 2010 World Cup when they meet minnows Azerbaijan at the AWD Arena in Hannover on Wednesday night. Watch Germany vs Azerbaijan live by signing up to view soccer online with the Live Sport Network.

The Germans tried out a different system on Saturday against South Africa, and were successful as they comfortably saw off Bafana Bafana 2-0. Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez scored the opener for Germany, and young Mesut Ozil confirmed victory with his maiden international strike.

Stuttgart midfielder Sami Khedira also made his debut as trainer Joachim Low picked up his 29^th win after taking over from Jurgen Klinsmann three years ago. Low was happy with the performance of his players, and picked out Mesut Ozil for special mention, adding that the Werder Bremen star had brought a lot of creativity to Germany’s game. Low opted to start with Gomez as the sole striker, with Ozil and Marko Marin manning the flanks.

Azerbaijan have only managed to pick up one point from their seven games in qualifying. Berti Vogts’ men took the lead against Finland in Lankaran, but late strikes from Rapid Vienna’s Markus Heikkinen and Werder’s Petri Pasanen allowed the Finns to emerge 2-1 winners.

Karabakh midfielder Elvin Mammadov scored the lone goal for the Azeris against Finland, which was also their first goal scored in World Cup 2010 qualifying. Vogts would however have taken heart from his side’s performance on Saturday night, when they gave the Finns a real run for their money.
