Germany clinched the tie 3-2 with goals from Bastian Schweinsteiger, Miroslav Klose and Michael Ballack. Although Portugal hit back through Nuno Gomes and Helder Postiga, it was too little too late.

The Germans will not take Turkey lightly and should have a fully fit squad for this game although Lukas Podolski is battling a leg strain.

Turkey preserved their status of comeback kings with a thrilling 3-1 win over Croatia after penalties. Turkey also made it through from a tough Group A defeating the Czech Republic even after they were 2-0 down.

In their Euro 2008 quarterfinal, Turkey looked to be down and out after Ivan Klasnic had put Croatia in the lead with just one minute remaining in extra time. However Semih Senturk scored sensationally in the second minute of added time and Croatia seemed to disintegrate thereafter.

Luka Modric, Ivan Rakitic and Mladen Petric all missed their penalties allowing Turkey to progress through.

However coach Fatih Terim will be without Emre Asik, Tuncay Sanli, Arda Turan and Volkan Demirel who are suspended for this game. Injury concerns for Terim include Nihat Kahveci, who has a thigh strain.
