Genoa drew 0-0 with Slavia Prague on Match Day 5, a result that finds them needing a win to qualify for the next round. A draw against Unai Emery’s men will not be enough if French outfit Lille avoid defeat against Slavia in the other group game.

Alessio Scarpi was in inspired form for the Rossoblu against Slavia. The veteran goalkeeper saved from Adam Hlousek and Stanislav Vlcek in the second half to keep his side in the game. The result sent Slavia out of the competition while Genoa lived to fight another day.

The winger again got his name on the score sheet in the 32^nd minute, latching on to Carlos Marchena’s pass before sending the ball past Mickael Landreau.

Juan Mata added number three in the 53^rd minute with a wonderful individual effort. Bruno Saltor’s long ball found Mata, who shrugged off the challenge of two Lille defenders before shooting left footed into the bottom corner of Landreau’s net. Franck Beria’s injury time goal was nothing but consolation for Lille, who would have booked their spot in the next round had they beaten Valencia.
