Bayer Leverkusen will be looking to continue their excellent recent form when they visit Turkish side Galatasaray in the first leg of the UEFA Cup knockout round.

Leverkusen have won seven of their last eight matches in all competitions but will face a tough tie away to Galatasaray who are undefeated in their last four matches against Bundesliga opponents. The Turkish club is filled with players who have had experience of German football with as many as seven players plying their trade in Germany before moving to Istanbul.

Rigobert Song and Ismaël Bouzid are the players of note in the Turkish side to have played in the Bundesliga. Galatasaray's overall form against German sides leaves much to be desired with the club winning just five of the 19 games played so far, of which only two wins came at home.

Coach Karl-Heinz Feldkamp has managed as many as six German clubs before moving on to manage Galatasaray. Galatasaray managed to qualify for the Round of 32 in the UEFA Cup by virtue of finishing third in Group H.

While this will be the first time that the two clubs are meeting on the European stage, Leverkusen have won all of their previous three matches played against Turkish opponents including a 2-1 win away to Fenerbahce in the 2001-02 UEFA Champions League. Bayer Leverkusen topped Group E and therefore made a direct entry into the round of 32.

The second leg is scheduled on 21 February with the winners playing either FC Zürich or Hamburger SV in the next round, leaving a possibility of an all-German Round of 16 if Leverkusen and Hamburger win their respective matches.
