The Tigers had managed to collect just four points from their first seven matches and were increasingly looking doomed to get relegated this season. However a determined performance against Wigan saw them register only their second win this season as two goals in eight minutes by Jan Vennegoor and Geovanni gave them a 2-0 lead before Scott Sinclair managed to reduce the deficit for Wigan late in the game.

While Hull are still positioned inside the relegation zone, manager Phil Brown will be relieved by the victory and will be hopeful that his players can consistently manage to collect points and pull clear of the drop zone.

Brown will be hoping to take full advantage of Fulham's poor form and secure a vital win against another team that is positioned just above them in the league table. Fulham have had a disappointing start to the season and find themselves 15th in the league table with seven points.

While the Cottagers have managed to put up some good displays in the Europa League, they have struggled for form in the domestic league and manager Roy Hodgson will now have to decide whether their European campaign is proving to be a costly distraction for his players.
