Having lost their first two games of the season, Everton put up an improved performance against Wigan Athletic to collect their first three points of the new season. However it looked to be going all wrong for David Moyes' side after Paul Scharner had given Wigan the lead only for Louis Saha to equalize two minutes past the hour mark before Leighton Baines grabbed the winner from the penalty spot deep in injury time.

Following the departure of Joleon Lescott, Moyes has boosted his defensive options with the purchase of Atletico Madrid defender Johnny Heitinga while there is some good news for the Everton faithful after the manager revealed that Mikel Arteta should return to training later this week though the Spaniard will not be rushed into action very soon.

Fulham on the other hand will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after losing out to Chelsea and Aston Villa in their last two matches. The Cottagers have not scored a goal in their last three games, including a 1-0 defeat to FK Amkar in the Europa League and manager Roy Hodgson will be expecting an improved performance from his strikers this weekend. Everton had completed the double over Fulham last season including a 2-0 win at Craven Cottage with Leon Osman scoring a brace in the second half.
