Manager Roy Hogdson will hope his side can challenge for a European spot at the end of the season and will be aware that his side can ill afford any slip ups against teams positioned near them in the league table. Meanwhile Sunderland will be hoping to bounce back from a disappointing 1-0 loss to Wigan Athletic last week. Hugo Rodallega's 76th minute strike was the difference between the two teams. The loss meant the Black Cats continued to be placed 8th on the league table with 20 points from 14 games.

Manager Steve Bruce will hope to have striker Darren Bent fit for this game. Michael Turner returns from suspension, while Lee Cattermole is still sidelined with a ligament injury. Meanwhile Kenwyne Jones is still suffering from a dead leg, which saw him play just 30 minutes in reserve team action on Wednesday, so he remains a doubtful starter for this one.
