Fulham registered their first away win in the league in more than two years with a shock 2-0 victory over Reading last weekend. Brian McBride and Erik Nevland scored one goal each in either half to provide a glimmer of hope for the side to avoid relegation from the league.

Fulham are currently 19th in the league table with 27 points from 34 matches and though they still need four points to avoid relegation with four matches remaining, manager Roy Hodgson will be optimistic of getting a result against Liverpool who are expected to rest some players ahead of their first leg Champions League semi final clash against Chelsea in the midweek.

Liverpool go into the match against Fulham on the back of a worsening backroom split that has once again put a doubt on manager Rafa Benitez's position for the next season. Benitez is being reported to be furious after reports surfaced that chief executive Rick Parry had held discussions with Jurgen Klinsmann as a possible replacement for Benitez last year.

While Benitez is engaged in a tussle between the owners, he has encouraged the players not to focus on the off field issues and instead concentrate on finishing fourth in the league and claiming their second Champions League trophy in four years.
