France will be looking to maintain their narrow supremacy over Republic of Ireland when the two teams meet again in the second leg of their World Cup qualifying play-off clash this Wednesday. A Nicolas Anelka goal late in the 72nd minute proved to be the difference between the two sides in the first leg even as Ireland carved out decent chances throughout the game. While France do have an upper hand going into the second leg, their inconsistencies throughout the qualifying campaign means that Ireland do have a great chance to cause an upset and progress to the World Cup finals next year.

France coach Raymond Domenech admitted that the game was too close to call and though his side are in the lead, Domenech revealed that they will have to put up a similar performance on Wednesday if they are to qualify for the World Cup. The French coach also played down rumors of a bust up between him and Thierry Henry over the absence of Patrick Vieira from the squad.

Domenech could be without Jeremy Toulalan who is still suffering from a hamstring injury though the Lyon midfielder is expected to make it to the bench for the game on Wednesday.
