France booked their place in the play offs in style with a thumping 5-0 win over Faroe Islands on Saturday with Andre Pierre Gignac scoring a brace in the first half while William Gallas, Nicolas Anelka and Karim Benzema were also on target.

The result would have come as a relief for coach Raymond Domenech who was under great pressure with France's participation in next year's World Cup finals looking in serious doubt. While they are not out of the woods yet, Domenech will be happy with his side's recent form and will be confident that they can successfully participate in the play offs and qualify for their fourth successive World Cup next year.

Meanwhile Austria coach Dietmar Constantini will be satisfied with his side's performances during the qualification campaign. Austria needed to beat Lithuania in their last match in order to remain in the hunt for the play offs spot and though goals from Marc Janko and Roman Wallner helped them to a 2-1 win, France's convincing victory over Faroe Islands meant that the victory was in vain for Constantini's side.

Constantini will be looking to end the campaign on a high and will be hoping that his players can repeat their performance from the last time they met France. Austria pulled off one of the upsets in the qualifying round as they secured a comfortable 3-1 win over France with Janko, Rene Aufhauser and Andreas Ivanschitz on target.
