France have been a shadow of their magnificent self in Euro 2008 so far. The 0-0 draw against Romania in the opener seemed to have set the tone for the French side. Coach Raymond Domenech would have hoped for a better showing against the Netherlands, but his side were mauled 4-1 in that game.

Goals from Dirk Kuyt, Robin Van Persie, Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder rendered Henry's goal useless and propelled the Dutch to the quarterfinals, while the French were left staring at an embarrassing exit.

Unless France win this game against Italy, they will be heading home.

Italy have also had an indifferent Euro 2008 so far. Roberto Donadoni's men were trashed 3-0 by the Dutch in their first game and could only draw 1-1 against Romania in their next game. In fact it was goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon who kept the Azzuri in the tournament after Mutu's goal had been nullified by Panucci.

The latter brought down Mutu in the box, but the Fiorentina man was unable to beat the brilliant Buffon. Italy will need to lift their game by many notches if they are to book a passage through to the next stage.
