The Reds were made to work hard for their narrow 1-0 win over Debrecen with Dirk Kuyt saving the blushes for his side by scoring the winner on the stroke of half time. Liverpool have followed it up with less than impressive performances in their last two games against West Ham and Leeds United.

Fiorentina on the other hand find themselves unlucky to not have registered their first points in the competition after putting up a good display against French club Lyon in their opening match. The Gigliati matched their opponents for most of the game but had to play the second half with just 10 men after Alberto Gilardino was sent off on the stroke of half time. Miralem Pjanic then wrapped up the points for Lyon with the winner in the 76th minute. One of the most urgent tasks for coach Cesare Prandelli will be to improve Fiorentina's home record. The Italian side has not won a home game in the group stages since their 1-0 win over Valencia back in 2000.

Liverpool will be missing the services of Alberto Aquilani with the Italian midfielder yet to recover from his ankle injury while Gianluca Comotto and Mario Alberto are a major doubt for Fiorentina after the pair picked up injuries against Sampdoria last week.
