The Italian side made it through to the round of 16 by beating Norwegian side Rosenborg by an aggregate score of 3-1. Fiorentina won the first leg way from home by a margin of 1-0 thanks to a goal from former Chelsea front man Adrian Mutu.

In the second leg at home, Fiorentina won 2-1 with Fabio Liverani and Daniele Cacia scoring the goals for the home side. Rosenborg grabbed a consolation through Yssouf Kone. However Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli will be without Mutu for almost one month after the Romanian striker sustained a knee injury.

Meanwhile Everton have gone from strength to strength and have made it to the top four in the English Premier League. Manager David Moyes will be heartened by his side's performance and will hope the Toffees will be able to grab some silverware this season.

Everton made it to the last 16 stage with a 8-1 trashing of Braan. Leon Osman and Victor Anichebe scored in the first leg at Bergen where Everton won 2-0. In the second leg at Goodison Park, Everton won 6-1 thanks to goals from Yakubu Ayegbeni, Andrew Johnson and Mikel Arteta. Yakubu got a hat-trick in that game.
