Feyenoord finished a poor seventh in the Dutch Eredivisie last season, and new coach Mario Been will have quite a few changes to implement if the Rotterdam outfit are to regain their past glory. Midfielder Sekou Cisse has been signed from Roda JC, and Spanish defender Daniel Fernandez has joined on a three year deal from Arsenal Kiev.

Feyenoord lost the Herman Teeuwen Memorial Trophy to VV Venlo on penalties recently. On their trip to Portugal, they hammered amateur outfit Limburgia 12-0, with Diego Biseswar scoring a hat trick. Young starlet Ron Vlaar also scored a brace in that demolition. They also beat fancied Sporting Lisbon 2-1. Jonathan de Guzman and former Bayern striker Roy Makaay scored for Feyenoord in that game.

Sampdoria finished thirteenth in the Serie A last season, but their greatest achievement was reaching the final of the Coppa Italia, where they were beaten by Lazio on penalties. The Blucerchiati have hired Luigi Del Neri as their new manager. They signed young talent Marco Rossi from Parma recently, with Antonio Mirante moving the other way.

Sampdoria's biggest player is, without a doubt, Antonio Cassano. The Bari born forward did not get along very well with Del Neri when he was at Roma, and rumours have appeared in the Italian press that domestic champions Inter Milan are wanting to spirit him away from Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
