Turkish leaders Fenerbahce welcome Sevilla to the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in Istanbul hoping to take a big enough lead and make it to their first quarterfinals ever in the Champions League. Fenerbahce could not have asked for a better opposition as Sevilla are debutants in this competition although they have won the UEFA Cup twice in recent years.

Fenerbahce made it to the knockout stages of the Champions League by virtue of finishing second in Group G behind Inter Milan. Coach Zico will need all his experience to guide the team through. Fenerbahce have brought in midfielder Claudio Maldonado to cover for Ghanaian midfielder Stephen Appiah who is missing for the season after a clot was found in his knee.

Sevilla coach Manuel Jimenez will be aware that his counterpart is a master tactician and will want his side to come away unscathed from Turkey. However he will be hampered by the absence of forward Ernesto Chevanton, who is out with a knee injury that requires surgery.

Dani Alves and Seydou Keita could also miss out, but Arouna Kone is back after missing many matches due to international duty at the African Nations Cup and Aquivaldo Mosquera is also back from suspension. Sevilla made it through to the knockout stage by finishing on top of Group H ahead of Arsenal.
