Faroe Islands are at the bottom of Group 7 with a solitary point to show for their efforts. The high point of their campaign was the 1-1 draw with Austria at home, which accounts for their single point and single goal scored so far.

Faroe Islands' last group game was against leaders Serbia, which they lost 2-0. That was also new manager Brian Kerr's first game in charge of the national team. After the France game, Faroe Islands will travel to the city of Graz to take on Austria in September.

France are eight points behind Serbia in Group 7, but Les Bleus do have two games in hand. Coach Raymond Domenech has included Franck Ribery in his 22 member squad despite the fact the influential playmaker is suffering from tendonitis. Tottenham target Moussa Sissoko has also been given a surprise call up, but there is no place for veteran midfielder Patrick Vieira.

France beat Lithuania in their two World Cup qualification games prior to this clash. Both were won by 1-0 margins, and Franck Ribery scored the winner on both occasions. The French forward line is a star studded one, with the likes of Karim Benzema, Thierry Henry and Nicolas Anelka in it. The trio are expected to be amongst the goals in Torshavn.
