Manchester City will try to overcome a 0-1 deficit when they travel to Denmark for the second leg of their UEFA Cup qualifier against FC Midtjylland. Danny Olsen’s 16^th minute winner at Eastlands means that the Danish side will start favourites at the SAS Arena in Herning on Thursday night.

 

 

City were poor in their performance at Eastlands a fortnight back, and were jeered off the pitch at the end. The side did not look like one attempting to challenge for Europe, and were promptly punished by Midtjylland for their insipid display. The result was followed by a loss in the Premiership to Aston Villa, but Hughes’ side restored some pride with a 3-0 win over West Ham on Sunday. Daniel Sturridge opened the scoring in the second half and Elano scored twice as City emerged comfortable winners. We could see Brazilian Jo in action on Thursday. Jo missed the first leg as he was on Olympic duty and the striker could add a new dimension to City’s game and give them that much needed attacking power upfront.

FC Midtjylland were in a dreamland with their 1-0 win in the first leg, but the Danish side will now harbour real hopes of advancing from this tie. They did suffer their first Superliga defeat a week ago, with FC Copenhagen beating them 3-1. Midtjylland are currently third in the Superliga after five games, two points behind leaders OB. Randers and Brondby are hot on their heels- just a point behind. Babajide Collins and Jonas Borring, the man who created the goal for Olsen a fortnight back, will be key players.
