Just one win in their last eight matches has seen Everton slip down to 16th in the league table, just three points above the drop zone. The Toffees suffered yet another disappointing defeat, this time to arch rivals Liverpool in their last game.

After a well matched first few minutes of the game, Everton gifted Liverpool the lead as Joseph Yobo scored an own goal in the 12th minute. Everton created a number of good chances throughout the game but were unable to secure the equalizer before Dirk Kuyt put the result beyond doubt by doubling the lead 10 minutes before the final whistle.

Everton have bounced back from the defeat with a hard fought 1-0 win over AEK Athens in their Europa League encounter on Wednesday with Diniyar Bilyaletdinov scoring the winner. However the victory came at some price though as Dan Gosling, Sylvain Distin and Jo all limped off the field and are a serious doubt for the match this weekend.

There are no such injury worries for Tottenham Hotspur who will be looking to consolidate their third place position with a third win in four matches. Spurs are increasingly looking capable of breaking into the top four of the league table but manager Harry Redknapp will be aware that his side can ill afford to rest on their excellent start to the season.
